If you have already checked the one under "JavaScript1.1 - a bit Different" section called Browser Like, then let me explain that this Script is not exactly same as that one - although at first glance these would look very similar when you try. This one is more like "Browser type Buttons" than that one :) ! :) ! Unlike the JavaScript1.1 Menubar that I referred to above, this one's images change when you depress the "mouse key" and revert back to original as soon as you release it.
I have used two event handlers that are supported in version 4.0 browsers. These are "onMousedown" and "onMouseup". In addition, to ensure you do not have any problem with older browsers - I have allowed access in three steps. It first checks for JavaScript support, then JS1.1 & finally JS1.2. So if the browser is JS1.1 type (e.g. Netscape 3.0), then, while the "onMouseover" will work, the "Mousedown/up" will be ignored.
As far as the Script is concerned, it's a wee bit more complicated than the Standard ones. The reason being, I wanted to make the "onMouseover" and "onMouseout" event handlers to work with both JavaScript V1.1 as well as JavaScript V1.2. Therefore, there are two sets of "function names" for identical effect. If you Download this and take a look at the file "menu_id14.html" you'll see, relevant to JavaScript1.1, I've called these Functions CHANGEIN & CHANGEOUT and for JavaScript1.2 CHANGEON & CHANGEGO, respectively.
